Sanghānandi, the Seventeenth Zen Patriarch, was the prince of the Kingdom of Shravasti. He often talked about Buddha's teaching since he was a child. He already felt bored of this world when he was only 7 years old and asked permission from the king, his father, to leave home. After 10 years of practice, he met and received initiation from the Sixteenth Zen Patriarch Rāhulata. Later on, he traveled to many places with his disciples to bring the blessings to the world.
Supreme Master told her renunciation stories to remind us: if we truly want to do something, and have made the decision, then the whole world would not bother us, we will find a way. Thus, if you want to do something, just do it if you know how and do not wait for the Buddha to come down to pull you up. You should make your own decision. If we cannot protect ourselves and do not develop the independent spirit, how can we obtain liberation? We should not always rely on Buddha's blessings. Therefore, it is ok to do anything, just be determined and pure-hearted, and clear about our goals. It is important not to cheat ourselves, if we do so, then we will not be able to bear ourselves at the end. We will feel miserable and would not be able to practice well, and we may also feel that it is meaningless to renounce the world. Really, it is like this.
