  • Summary

Countless millions of eons ago, a king named Maha Ratha had three golden crown princes around him. One day, the king travelled to the deep forest with his family. The three princes saw a mother tiger who wasn't able to hunt for food because of weakness after giving birth to her babies and was on the brink of death; the youngest prince Maha Sattva asked his two elder brothers how to save the mother tiger and her children from starvation. His brothers replied that only fresh meat and blood could nourish the starved tigers, and they advised him to leave there immediately. The compassionate prince Maha Sattva, repenting for the karma he created in past lives, was willing to offer his body to feed the mother tiger, so as to minimize the accumulated force of karma of greed, hatred and ignorance and to sow the seed of blessing for all sentient beings.

Countless of eons later,, this affinity of sacrificing for feeding tigers successfully transformed three robbers into sincere Buddha followers who finally got enlightened and reached Nirvana.

Our affinity with a Buddha is not necessarily always a good one. Be it a good affinity or bad one, he/she will definitely save us once we meet him/her when he/she attained Buddhahood…
