How to get benefits from merciful giving? Master says, we help others because we feel as sad when we see others are sad. It should be really from our heart. We do not give for reward nor for merits or blessings, but for ourselves, because we will feel sad if we do not help. This is natural help.

Master gives an example of her experiences of buying vegetables, humorously telling us that she doesn’t dare to take the vegetables free offered by the grocery vendor, because she was afraid that the vendor would sell vegetables life after life and couldn’t get liberated, just like the man in the story in the Buddhist Sutra who offered two dollars to Buddha and had since then been holding 2 dollars in his hand in his life times of 61 eons. It's surely beneficial for ourselves if we offer to Buddha, but if it keeps us in reincarnation, we'd better not do that. It’s the best way of offering if we offer our body, speech and mind and practice Guan Yin Method to be liberated from life and death.

Furthermore, Master also tells the story of the legendary doctor Qin Huan (also named Bian Que) in the period of Spring and Autumn and Warring States. Why was it too late for the Duke Huan of Qi to be cured after Qin Huan met him and told him about his illness many times? For the illness of body, he still couldn’t feel it, nor could he trust the great doctor, let alone the illness from Karma. Most of us sentient beings are like this. No matter how many Masters come, and no matter how reasonable their teachings are, we would not listen anyway. That’s the habit of sentient beings. Not many people were liberated even when Buddha was alive.
