  • Summary

In this MP3,  Supreme Master Ching Hai told a story about the Gold Monk and the Great Bright King.

For what reason does the Gold Monk have inexhaustible money in his hands? Why does a poor firewood cutter who had a sincere offering to a living Buddha had to reincarnate for 91 eons? Through this story, the Supreme Master Ching Hai reminds  us  that giving without a sincere longing for  the Truth cannot liberate  us from  the life and death cycle. We can give, but we should be clear about our purpose of offering. We offer things to Buddha,  a group of practitioners or fellow initiates because we respect Him or they need it.  When we offer without wanting physical merit, we’ll have merit naturally. We’ll have greater  merit, we’ll be able to become a Buddha.

How had an accident during elephant training led the Great Bright King to the way to become a Buddha? Through this past life story of  Sakyamuni Buddha, Supreme Master Ching Hai encouraged us that even though the Great Bright King had committed killing, he could still become a Buddha because of this affinity.,  We human being should always aim at  spiritual evolution and try to improve our level every day; and we should make a vow every day and remind ourselves to do good deeds and create good affinities so that we will have brilliant and noble results in future. We should be courageous and try to reduce our greed, anger  and ignorance , and follow the footsteps of the Buddha.  One day we will surely be able to conquer all beings and ourselves, and break the shackles of life and death cycle of all beings.
