Only when the situation arises will we understand that animals know how to love, and that the way they love is extremely noble, sincere, and touching. Love doesn't necessarily mean sacrificing our lives for our loved ones, but animals are often willing to die for those they love. For example, Hero, one of the Supreme Master’s recently adopted dogs, suffered and sacrificed his life for his family. It’s deeply touching that the Supreme Master promised him she would care for his mother and siblings for the rest of their lives. During her talk the Supreme Master discusses animals’ heartfelt love and noble qualities, saying that by contrast humans’ love for others is not always unconditional. For example, we love our parents because they give birth to us and raise us. We love our teachers because they teach us how to tell right from wrong, good from evil. We love our friends because they cheer us up by allowing us to chat with them. Two people in a relationship love each other when they first fall in love. But when circumstances change, will their love last? It’s easy to declare that we "love" someone, but love and unconditional devotion are different. |
