Summary
We recite Sutras in order to know Buddha’s scriptures and teachings. This is the right way of reciting. If we understand what is written in the scriptures, our morality will grow and we will wish to practice spiritually; thus we will get a little closer towards Buddha and our wisdom will become a little higher. However, if we eat too much meat, our karma will be too heavy, and it will be hard for our wisdom to develop.
In order to develop our wisdom, we need to purify our body, speech and mind. Otherwise, even if we are sincere and meditate every day, the merit will be deducted by the karma we created because of meat eating; it’s just like making money and doing business – we make a lot of money every day, still it will be deducted because we spend too much and owe too much debt. If we really want to follow the Buddha and learn the spirit of compassion and all loving kindness, we should love animals in the same way we love our feeble kids.
