Provincial Governor Yang Xuanzhi begged Bodhidharma not to leave the world and to continue to transform sentient beings universally; the Patriarch, however, did not want to stay in the mundane world and cause ordinary people to be jealous and hate him which would increase their own karma. Later some people saw the passed Boddhidharma appear in Pamir Heights and returned to India, leaving behind only an empty coffin and a pair of straw shoes.
In the Dharma-ending Age, evil things are more than good things. Beings are troubled by Mayas. Even if they meet Master, they may still fall into bad way if they do not practice themselves. Supreme Master Ching Hai reminds us to be cautious in spiritual practice. Having a Master doesn't guarantee everything. We should rely on ourselves and follow Master's guidance. If we do not change ourselves, it would be useless even if we live with a saint. If we are not open to higher wisdom and ideals, we may be dragged down by worldly situations. Therefore, we should learn from the examples of saints and Buddhas, and their way of life and ideals, so as to avoid falling into Maya's traps. Otherwise, although we say we want liberation, we are still attached inside, and still cannot escape from the circle of life and death.
